What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This is my third book, after writing two fantasy stories. I love to write characters who are real, sometimes quirky, and complicated. Life isn’t simple and I try to put my characters in positions where they have difficult choices to make and are rewarded when they do the right thing. Realism can be difficult, but I love happy endings.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Most detective stories feature a main character who is unbelievably tough, smart, good-looking, and always saves the girl. I wanted Eric Slater to be adept, but not invincible, charming but sometimes dorky; in other words, real and believable. Maggie and her sister are both portrayed as pretty, but as real women with real issues, both with each other and their complicated past.
She backed away from the wing as I stepped onto the ground and stood there looking at me expectantly. She was all of five ten in her sandals, with chestnut hair and a healthy dose of freckles scattered across her cheeks like pepper on an egg. Her legs were nicely tanned and seemed a bit too long for her cutoffs. I should have recognized her, she had the same striking blue eyes as her sister.
She looked at the Piper and made a face. “Does that thing actually fly, or do you just like getting dirty?
