Inspire Me: Raw by Sonia Iris Lozada
In INSPIRE ME: RAW, Sonia Iris Lozada reveals the unspoken hidden moments, speaking courage and faith for all to move on. Traveling through the lands of her life from Chicago to Los Angeles, Lozada’s unique bi-cultural perspective captures incidents and images of rough terrain with honesty and wry acceptance. As a singer and performer, she moves her words through the body and soul; and by giving a glimpse into our spirits’ reconciliation with difficult days, her deft words lighten all our paths.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Writing poetry has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I think it was my way of processing my thoughts, fears and triumphs regarding my bi-cultural life and experiences. In 2016, I wrote poetry for a book which received positive responses. So, in 2017, I gave myself permission to allow myself to be vulnerable publicly. Self-publishing my first book “Inspire Me: Raw”, which to my surprise received many positive reviews.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
This book is part fiction and memoir. The characters are those people I have come across in my life and my own life experiences.

Sometimes I can’t remember: often, actually
The times I ran out and said nothing to you
The times I was angry and pretended to be okay
The times I didn’t come home at night
Sometimes I can’t remember: often, actually
When your anger lashes out at me
When you drank too often and hurt me
When you disappeared into an aberrant abyss of time
Sometimes I do remember: often, actually
Your cruel words that hurt
Your desire to touch that repulses
Your anger at who you’ve become
I remember and choose to forget
Do you love? As those you love are hurt
Do you know the emergency room—a second home?
Do you understand—Inner scars show more than ones I wear?
Sometimes I can’t remember: often, actually
The raising of happy children here
The life we thought was possible
The comfort of a safe loving home
Sometimes I can’t remember: often, actually
How—reality needs exposure
How—I’ve always remembered
How—lights slowly dim on you
