The following effort is a remarkably entertaining collection of insight on Caribbean life, from a handful of famous authors, musicians, gamblers, and adventurous fools. Along with the best quotes from my entire “The Road To Key West” series, this is really a banquet of memories, in which you will discover adventure and wisdom with short bursts of truth and humor. The 70s and 80s are very much alive in this book! It’s damned near as definitive a collection of clever thoughts as you find anywhere, as well as offering extraordinary island-hopping insights by the remarkable Rastaman, Rufus. So just lose yourself for a bit. Slip away from the present and slide into the past — nod your head and smile, and laugh for a while.
Hexed in Texas: A Humorous Fantasy (Book 1 of the Baba Yaga Chronicles) by Kathy Burford
A Russian witch steps through her magic mirror. The heir of a voodoo queen makes more conventional travel plans. But why are they headed for Texas?
Once upon a time (a year ago, if you’re a stickler for details), chaotic magic leaking from Alamo excavations triggered an improbable event, drawing the attention of two unlikely rivals in search of a rare prize.
The Russian witch Baba Yaga has been living in her chicken-legged hut in the forest since–even she can’t remember how long.
M. C. Laveau, the CEO of Laveau Pharmaceuticals, merchandizes products that exploit the magic of her grandmother Marie (yes, that Marie).
Book 1 of the Baba Yaga Chronicles, in which she and her sisters confront the modern world, with alarming and comical results.
If you like light-hearted fantasy with offbeat humor, clever plot twists, and quirky characters, read the Baba Yaga Chronicles!

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I love the combination of science fiction and humor, such as “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” (Douglas Adams) or “Space Opera” (Catherynne Valente). Science fiction fans don’t mind poking fun at their favorite tropes. And sometimes – 2020 in particular – I need a light, fun story where nobody dies and the universe isn’t in danger of destruction. So I wrote a story about a teenager who accidentally becomes a spaceship captain, and she and her misfit crew have to negotiate with an alien leader so evil that he’s just banned chocolate.
If you’ve ever dreamed of traveling back in time to meet someone you’ve fantasized about, you will love this book series. It will sweep you away and allow you to live your fantasy for hours on end; you will feel as if you’re actually there and never want to leave. Susan in “The Necklace” series travels 50 years back in time in her 17-year-old body to meet James, age 20, the man of her dreams. James, however, does not turn out to be the paragon she envisioned and although he falls in love with her, their relationship is stormy and tempestuous. Susan’s independent and stubborn nature is in direct conflict with James’s arrogance and bossiness. Susan struggles to cope in an era pre women’s lib. Their fiery passion for each other, however, overrides all conflict. When it’s time for Susan to return to the present, she gives James a parting gift of her silver necklace not knowing that it contains magic that will bind them together for life. And because of this, she continues to return to the past in multiple journeys fraught with suspense and heartache in an attempt to be with him forever.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
What inspired me to write this book was witnessing someone who was close to me struggle with their own addictions. I had alot of fun with this one. I wanted the reader to see the story from both the main characters perspectives. It was quite enjoyable to dive into the headspace of two completely different characters and have their lives intertwine. I also really enjoy a twist so I added in a paranormal ghostly presence from their past.
