In eighteenth-century France, the mysterious death of one of the clergies is soon followed by the disappearance of another. It quickly becomes apparent that something sinister has invaded their monastery, and only a former cleric from Avignon can solve the mystery of the missing monks. Shortly into his investigation, he discovers that the truth behind the sudden tragic events is much more diabolical than he could have ever imagined.
On the march, around the campfire, and in the taverns, they tell incredible stories about Tarmun Vykers, the Reaper – how he’s never been cut in battle, how he once defeated hundreds of men by himself, how he exterminated an entire people over an insult. These stories make Vykers seem like a god, but he is a man, an arrogant, ruthless and bloodthirsty man. For all that, he may be the only thing standing between the human race and utter annihilation at the hands of the mad wizard who calls himself the End-of-All-Things. Against this backdrop, smaller, lesser folks struggle to fulfill their own destinies, folks like Aoife, burdened with a secret so dark she is driven to do the unimaginable and seek an alliance with fey powers no mortal has ever encountered.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I started writing The Fire Within My Heart as a short story when I was on break at work as a creative outlet as I was working in the arts, around so many artists and creatives, and yet not able to do any of my own. These people inspired me and brought out that flare in me I felt I'd lost many years prior. Eventually, it blossomed into a full-fledged novel to which I devoted endless hours, many moons, and so much emotion. Without the weird and wonderful creatives of a particular festival at which I worked, though, it never would have become what it is.
Devon O’Keefe, star of a popular streaming TV series Beverly Hills Banshee, is losing her grip on life and her sudden fame. When substance abuse and erratic behavior cause production of her show to come to a halt– and after burning through all of her money on drugs and legal fees– the young Midwestern transplant finds herself alone and homeless in L.A.
Enter Nikki Barnes, notorious aging child star and Hollywood survivor with her own tabloid exploits, who waylays Devon after a twelve-step program meeting. Nikki sees a younger version of herself in Devon, having battled addiction, eating disorders and the effects of personal tragedy for decades. She offers to share her decaying Laurel Canyon mansion with the troubled actress, determined to help her avoid making the same mistakes she’s made. But soon a series of mysterious and disturbing incidents occur and the two women find themselves locked in a complex and twisted relationship that spirals downward into violence.
Ladies of the Canyon explores the universal need for family and acceptance, and how a toxic environment can affect the choices we make.

I'm a movie fan and especially like suspenseful ones that mine psychological territory. As a kid, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? scared me and I found I was attracted to other somewhat dark films such as Sunset Blvd. and Day of the Locust that were set in Hollywood (where I live and work, writing, of all things, TV shows for kids.)
